Vietnam has encouraged Norway to increase investment in renewable energy projects as the country plans to invest an estimated $136 billion in expanding its power system, according to Báo Nghệ An.

The request was discussed during a meeting in Hanoi on 10 February 2026 between Vietnam’s Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung and Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust.

The discussions also covered progress on the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EFTA countries, as well as Vietnam’s request for Norwegian financial and technical support for energy infrastructure under its national power development plan.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam expects electricity demand to grow by 10–12% annually and aims to raise total power capacity to more than 150 gigawatts by 2030.

Le Manh Hung called on Norwegian companies and the state-owned investment fund Norfund to invest in offshore wind, energy storage and related infrastructure.
