To mark the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the Chinese Embassy in Denmark hosted a reception on Monday 31st of July, 2012, co-hosted by Chinese Ambassador Li Ruiyu and Defense Attache Senior Col. Chen Yong.

According to ShanghaiDaily.com, the reception at the embassy featured photographic displays and videos showcasing the PLA’s efforts in peace-keeping missions throughout the years.

Some 150 guests, including representatives of the Danish armed forces, defense attaches from other embassies and diplomats, attended the reception.

The attendees discussed the achievements made by the PLA in safeguarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over the years, its support of China’s economic and social development, and its contributions to global peacekeeping efforts.

China has provided more than 20,000 personnel to some 30 UN peacekeeping missions, the largest contribution among permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Moreover, units of the Chinese and Danish navies have partnered in fighting piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off the Horn of Africa in recent years.

Established on Aug. 1, 1927, the PLA remains the principal body of China’s armed forces. It comprises both active and reserve components.
