Increase in Scandinavian tourists in Malaysia

From January to June 2012, the number of Scandinavian tourists travelling to Malaysia has increased comparing with the same period last year. Among the Scandinavian tourists, the number of Danish tourists has increased the most which represents 16 percent.

In 2011, the number of Scandinavian tourists visiting Malaysia is 106,267. 22,269 of which are from Denmark, 44,138 are from Sweden, 19, 891 are from Norway and 19.969 are from Finland.

However, it is not only the number of Scandinavian tourists that increased. Tourism in Malaysia has grown very fast, which represents 350% growth rate in number of tourists travelling to Malaysia in the past 15 years.

In 2011 there were a total of 24.7 million tourist arrivals to Malaysia. The vast majority of tourists came from Singapore, which accounted for as much as 13.5 million tourist arrivals in 2011.

The number of tourists from neighboring countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam accounted for as many as 17.1 million or 69% of all tourist arrivals to Malaysia in 2011.
