Less Gender Gap in Nordic countries – In Asia, The Philippines is best for women

According to Global Gender Gap Report released on 23 October by the Word Economic Forum, Nordic countries are among the top 7 countries with least gender gap in the world. Iceland is the best country for women, followed by Finland, Norway, and Sweden respectively. Denmark ranked 7th. In Asia, the Philippines is the best country for women.

The report ranks 135 countries (which collectively contain over 90 percent of the world’s population) based on 14 indicators used to measure the size of a nation’s gender gap in four key areas; Economic participation and opportunity, Educational attainment, Health and survival and Political empowerment.

The rankings are designed to create greater awareness among a global audience of the challenges posed by gender gaps and the opportunities created by reducing them. The methodology and quantitative analysis behind the rankings are intended to serve as a basis for designing effective measures for reducing gender gaps.

According to the report, the worst countries for women are Yemen, Pakistan, Chad, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.
