Jyrki Katainen, Finnish Prime Minister, emphasised that Finland welcomed the recent democratic developments in Myanmar, when he met with Thein Sein, President of Myanmar in a sideline meeting at the Asem summit.
“I said to President Sein that Finland is ready and interested in discussing ways of enhancing cooperation, developing the activities of civil society and increasing democratic dialogue in Myanmar. Based on our own experience, I underlined that inclusive and open education is a key element of a well-functioning, modern society respecting human rights,” said Prime Minister Katainen in Laos.
President Sein promised that all Myanmar’s social and political actors, including opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, will be involved in the country’s process towards democracy.
