Denmark Pledge USD 67 Million for Vietnam’s Socio-Economic Development

Danish ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen joined a consultative group (CG) meeting for Vietnam on 6-7 December, in Hanoi. The meeting focused on the directions, tasks and solutions for a successful implementation of the five-year socio-economic development plan (SEDP) for 2006-2010.
        As result of the meeting, donors pledged USD 3.7 bill in 2006. Denmark for its part pledged USD 67 mill for 2006.
        The ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen congratulated the Vietnamese government for its impressive record in poverty reduction. Recent poverty data shows a further decrease in poverty to 19.5 per cent in 2004.  
        The Danish ambassador also pointed out that the judicial reform should be a corner stone of Vietnam’s development efforts as an independent and efficient judiciary is essential for ensuring the rights of the individual as well as for Vietnam’s continuing integration into the global economy.
