Danish Program for Handicapped Children to Continue in the Philippines

A Danida sponsored program to help handicapped children in The Philippines will continue when Danida and The Danish Society of Polio and Accident Victims (PTU) withdraw in near future. PTU has been active in The Philippines since 1995 when the program was initiated. PTU has participated in the establishment of 11 Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Centers and 60 satellite centers in Capiz. The centers provide training programs for parents of handicapped children and the task of running the centers will now be in the hands of local authorities. That also includes training of local health personnel to take care of parents and children in the future. According to the PTU’s website more than 12,000 children have received assistance in one of the centers since the project was started.
