Finnish President Touring South East Asia

The Finnish President, Tarja Halonen, is currently attending a series of state visits in Southeast Asia.
Starting her tour in Indonesia on the 19th of February, President Halonen visited Banda Aceh, to learn more about the peace process and the post-tsunami reconstructions.
The President then had a one day visit in Singapore, where she met with the nation’s leaders, Prime Minister Lee Hsien long and President SR Nathan, as well as Finns working in the area, before moving on to Vietnam, the final visit on her Southeast Asian tour.
President Halonen arrived in Vietnam for a three day stay on Wednesday 21st, and will be having a five day vacation in Vietnam after finishing the official part of her trip.
During the three day official stay in Vietnam, Halonen will meet with political leaders and attend a business seminar, a panel on women’s position and equality and finally a trip to the Haiphong area where she will learn more about development cooperation projects that have received Finnish funds.
During the visit an investment protection agreement as well as cooperation agreements in a number of sectors will be signed.
Accompanying President Halonen on the tour is a business delegation.
