Ambassador Bolin Pennegård Visits Timor-Leste

Ambassador Ann Marie Bolin Pennegård paid an official visit to Timor-Leste 9-13 June 2008, together with Sida’s regional representative on democracy and human rights, Mr. Johan Hallenborg.
    The Ambassador met with president José Ramos-Horta, Foreign Minister Zacarias Albano da Costa and with Minister for Justice Affairs Lucia Lobato, as well as with State Secretary for Security Affairs Fransisco Guterres and numerous representatives of the international community.
    She visited the National Parliament and met with speaker Fernando Lasama de Araujo, and representatives of the various committees of the Parliamaent. She also made a field trip with UNICEF to the primary school of Hoholete in the Aileu district, situated in the mountains overlooking the valleys of Aileu at over 2000m height. During the wet season the school can only be reached on foot.
    The aim of the visit was to assess Swedish Development Cooperation with Timor-Leste in recent years as well as to identify future areas of cooperation between our two countries.
