SIDA Teams Up with Urban Planners to Fight Manilan Slum

The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) has invited urban planners from various parts of the world, including Africa and Latin America, to the capital of Indonesia to participate in the SIDA-supported ambitious housing program of the local city government, which aims to improve the overall living conditions of the low-income population of Manila.

By calling in experts the city government hopes to find sustainable and effective long-term solutions to end the slum-problems of the city.

According to the plans, the overall objective of this policy is to “remove the infamous slum communities throughout the entire city and transform these areas into orderly and liveable medium-rise communities for city residents”.
