New Norwegian priest at work in Bangkok

The new Norwegian priest in Thailand, Mrs. Hilde Sirnes from Lista near Farsund in Norway, officially began her assignment with a sermon at the Christ Church on Convent Road, Bangkok on October 12.
Mrs. Hilde Sirnes replaces Mrs. Gro Haaversen Barth, who returned to Norway at the end of June this year.
She was introduced to the Scandinavian community by the Ambassador of Norway to Thailand, Mrs. Ragne Birte Lund, before giving her first sermon in Bangkok.
“I have been working as a family counsellor for the past ten years and had actually applied for another position when I was contacted by the Norwegian Seamens’ Mission and encouraged to apply for this job,” said Hilde Sirnes during her earlier visit to Bangkok early September to prepare herself for the new assignment of serving the Scandinavian community in Thailand – in particular of course the Norwegian residents as well as the increasing number of Norwegian tourists visiting Thailand.
Hilde Sirnes, 38, arrived in Bangkok on October 8. She is accompanied by her husband Finn Kydland and their two sons, 4 year old Ferdinand and 2 year old Frede.
Finn Kydland was, before coming to Thailand, a teacher at a youth college in Norway. During their posting in Bangkok he will also be part-time employed at the Scandinavian Church.
