Danish and Vietnamese artists share “Normal Trade” in Hanoi

Artworks by three Danish and three Vietnamese artists will be displayed at an exhibition entitled “Normal Trade”, which will open in Hanoi on July 24.
Sponsored by the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund (CDEF) and the Danish Art Council, the exhibition is the result of cooperation among Anna Bennike, Soren Thilo Funder, Theis Wendt from Denmark and Pham Hoai Anh, Nguyen Minh Dieu Huong and Vuong Bich Ngoc from Vietnam. The event’s curator is Danish artist Toke Lykkeberg. The exhibition will run from July 24 to August 21 at Hanoi Future Art, No. 64, Alley 310, Nghi Tam road, Tay Ho district, Hanoi.
In just three weeks, Danish and Vietnamese artists changed the space of Hanoi Future Art into a “bamboo-made shop”. This may look like a real store, but inside things are not arranged in positions that they might be expected to. There are no goods, only art. The exhibition is the fruit of exchanges, in which artists were encouraged to express their thoughts, ideas and discuss their works.
The “store” is an artwork of a group, based on different cultural grounds. Inside the store are personal and collective artworks, using various materials. CDEF was established by the Danish Embassy in Vietnam in 2006 to support contemporary and experimental art in Vietnam and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Denmark.
