Water puppeteers back after tour to Denmark and Sweden

Vietnam’s water puppeteers have just ended their performance tour of European countries where they received a warm welcome from audiences, writes the news agency VNA.
The Central Water Puppetry Theatre gave 16 performances in Copenhagen, Arhus, Odense and Esbjerg between 21 August and 10 September.
In Sweden the Vietnamese puppet masters performed 13 shows, in Jaerna, Kristianstad, Lund and Gothenburg between 11 and 28 September. Other countries visited before the troupe came back in November were France and Germany.      Water puppetry is a unique art which has its origin in the delta of the Red River in the 10th century. Modern water puppetry is performed in a pool of water with the water surface being the stage. The puppeteers stand behind a screen and control the wooden puppets using long bamboo rods with a string mechanism hidden beneath the water surface.
