New Danish Ambassador to China

On January 1st 2012, Denmark assumes the rotating Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, and is already planning and preparing for this big task with the presidency troika partners.


As part of the preparations, the Danish Foreign Service has decided on a big ambassadorial reshuffle, and Friis Arne Petersen has been appointed new Danish ambassador to China as of September 1st 2010. Prior to China,  Arne Friis Petersen was Denmark’s ambassador to the US from 2005-2010 and before that, he was head of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Secretary of State for more than 8 years from 1997-2005.


Ambassador Petersen is very pleased with his new appointment: “After 5 years in the US, I am very excited to begin my new work and life in Beijing as the Danish Ambassador to China. This year, Denmark and China can celebrate the 60th anniversary of Sino-Danish cooperation, which is growing quickly in all fields. Many Danish ministers, parliamentary delegations and high level business delegations are increasingly visiting China.”


Denmark’s diplomatic activities in China include the royal embassy in Beijing and a network of diplomatic representations throughout China in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Hong Kong.
