Danish Advice to Chinese Mayor

For the fifth year running, Mayor Huang Qifan had gathered more than 20 CEOs and chairmen from some of the world’s largest corporations to discuss future prospects for the city of Chongqing.

The prominent business professionals make up Huang Qifan’s personal advisory council and are annually invited to assist with ideas and advice within designated areas. This year the topic was “How can Chongqing be developed into a regional financial centre?”, and each member of the council offered their opinion on, how Chongqing can achieve this goal.

Danish A.P. Møller-Mærsk was represented on the council by CEO of APM Terminals Mr. Kim Fejfer, and CEO of Carlsberg Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen participated as a guest at the meeting. The Danish Consul in Chongqing, Hans Halskov, was also present.

In general, the panel presented the Mayor with the same fundamental requirements regarding Chongqing’s structural make up such as a transparent and supportive regulatory system, good infrastructure, favourable conditions for financial businesses wanting to site their headquarters in Chongqing, greater general transparency, large pool of talent within the financial sector and so forth.

At the council meeting, it was decided that the theme for next year’s meeting will be “Green IT”, which is a field well suited for Danish companies, and within which Danish companies could seek out business opportunities with advantage.
