Orphaned Baby Orangutans Rescued

Three orphaned baby orangutans in East Kalimantan in the care of the Center for Orangutan Protection (COP) will have a future thanks to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) and its overseas donor partners.

Clarifying a report Friday in The Jakarta Post’s, Joel Palmer, BOSF senior adviser on communications and fund raising, said the young orangutans would be raised for several years until they were mature enough to be released in the wild.

An NGO dedicated to the preservation of the Bornean orangutan species through re-introduction of captive orangutans back to the wild, the BOSF has been meeting in Balikpapan with its overseas donor partners to address funding of upcoming orangutan release programs and other policy issues. — JP
