Norwegian Sailing Team Joined 11th Annual Ambassador’s Cup

The Embassy of Norway participated in the 11th annual Ambassador’s Cup held at Changi Sailing Club last weekend.
This year’s event, hosted by Ambassador Jansing of The Netherlands, saw 23 Embassies represented among the 29 participating boats. The race was held between the mainland and Pulau Ubin. Some participants had sailed several times before while others were novices, however there was plenty of jostling for position and good-natured banter along the course.
The weather in Singapore is always unpredictable, but on Saturday 30th October the sailors experienced it all. From sunny spells and no wind to thunder, lightning and squalls. The Norwegian Embassy joined with a team of 3 sailors onboard Le Jamms captained by Chris Collins. The team were pleased to beat some of the boats along the way and finished in 6th place in the second division.
Team Norway were cheered on by spectators onboard a 118 year old Hardanger Jacht called Vega, represented by the Norwegian Ambassador, the regional director of Innovation Norway along with a handful of Norwegian company representatives. The historical vessel was built in Ølve, Norway in 1893. The ship has gained a new lease of life and a new mission bringing supplies and aid to island communities in South Asia. Vega is berthed at Raffles Marina in Singapore until 9th November and is open to the public from 12 to 7 pm every day. Please see www.sailvega.com for more details.
