Urges Police to Think Twice on Curfew Plan

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday urged police to consult all relevant parties before enforcing the measure to prevent children aged under 18 from going out late at night in Bangkok.

“The measure is related to both the welfare and the liberties of children,” NHRC commissioner Visa Benjamano said.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) has recently vowed to prevent children from staying out of home beyond 10pm without any sound reason.

Visa said police should take into account that the current social and economic conditions in the capital made many children still out of home after 10pm.

“At that time, some children may still have some errands to tend too outside home or are on their way home,” she said.
