The Swedish Stenbeck family controlled mobile operator company Millicom International Cellular reports a 54 percent jump in South East Asia subscribers for first quarter 2004.
It is primarily the cellular business in Vietnam that has contributed most to Millicom’s growth first quarter 2004 compared with the same period 2003.
The company has regional operations in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and counted 1,700 073 subscribers there by 31 March 2004.
Total Asia revenue grew by 34 percent to USD 86.4 million for the same period.
Worldwide revenue was USD 213.9 million, up 54 percent compared with first quarter 2003, and the total number of global subscribers was 5,897 371 by 31 March 2004.
