Luang Prabang named Top City

UK tourist magazine Wanderlust has named Luang Prabang of Laos top city for tourists for 2011, according to the daily Pasaxon.

The Lao language newspaper published on its front page last Friday, claiming the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had received a letter from the Lao Embassy in Paris on that Wanderlust had named Luang Prabang of Laos Top City and its honour would be announced on Feb 4, 2011 in London.

According to the paper, Luang Prabang has won the award five times. Its first winning was recorded in 2006, the second and third in 2007 and 2008, respectively. In 2009 Luang Prabang was absent from the title when Antigua in Guatemala grabbed the prize.

The fourth time of winning the prize for Luang Prabang was announced in 2010.

Situated in the north of Laos, Luang Prabang, is the former royal capital of the Kingdom of Lane Xang (one million elephants), blessed with traditional way of life, rich heritage of architecture and culture.
