Ship Management Open for Business

The Norwegian-Indonesian joint venture PT Timur Ship Management officially opened its offices for business in Jakarta on April 27th 2011.


The opening took place in the presence of the Thome group Chairman and CEO Mr Olav Eek Thorstensen and Norway’s ambassador to Indonesia H. E. Eivind S. Homme, as well as of President and Managing Director of Timur Offshore Mr. Clas Eek Thorstensen, Managing Director of Timur Ship Management in Singapore Captain Knut Egeberg,  and many members of the business and shipping community in Indonesia.


PT Timur is part of the Singapore based Norwegian owned Thome Group – one of the world’s leading independent third-party ship managers. The Thome Group was established in 1963 and has operated in Indonesia for nearly fifty years, thus already having vast experience in the country. Mr. Odd Are Sletten has been appointed as the Managing Director of Timur Ship Management’s Jakarta Office. PT Timur starts up with nine employees, with ambitions of having this number grow quickly.


In his speech Ambassador Homme congratulated the new company and made reference to maritime cooperation being one of the pillars in Norway’s relations to Indonesia. He said that the establishment of PT Timur demonstrates the increasing interest that the Norwegian shipping businesses are showing for this country. Homme expressed confidence that Timur Ship Management, with its combination of the best of long Norwegian maritime traditions and the strong drive of a modern Asian enterprise, will do very well in Indonesia.
