Danish Ambassador to PM: Myanmar should take back Rohingyas

Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen has told Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that Denmark believes Myanmar should take back the Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh.

The Danish Ambassador met with the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office on 20 November.

The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, said the Prime Minister emphasized the subject of repatriating the over-one-million Myanmar Rohingyas living in Bangladesh, according to Dhaka Tribune.

Sheikh Hasina said her government is preparing an island in Noakhali district to temporarily shelter the Rohingyas.

In August 2017 Rohingya refugees began fleeing repression and violence in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.
