Danish Ambassador witnesses Sinopec’s ‘green’ transformation

On November 29, the Danish Ambassador to China, Mr. Friis Arne Petersen, participated in the launching ceremony of the Sinopec Environmental Protection Report and witnessed the first environmental protection report issued by a major Chinese energy enterprise.

At the event, ambassador Petersen met with Mr. Fu Chengyu, chairman of the board of directors of the Sinopec Group. Ambassador Petersen and Mr. Fu had a discussion about the future cooperation between Sinopec and Denmark in the areas of biofuel, oil and gas exploration as well as wind farms and power production.

The ambassador also met Mr. Li Ganjie, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as Mr. Wang Tianpu, president of Sinopec Group and Mr. Georg Kell, Executive Director of United Nations Global Compact.

“I admire the vision, progress and ambitions of Sinopec in protecting our planet. The Danish government is strongly committed to environmental protection and development and use of clean and reliable energy” said Ambassador Petersen at the ceremony.

The release of the Sinopec Environmental Protection Report signifies the transition of Sinopec from a traditional oil and gas company to an environment-driven energy company providing clean and reliable energy.

During Chinese President Hu Jintao’s state visit to Denmark in June, Denmark and china signed a memorandum of understanding in the energy and environment area, where both countries promised to support and create occasions for mutual exchanges and communication on energy topics.
