Children in displacement camps in Myanmar are receiving new support through child-friendly spaces opened by the Myanmar Red Cross Society in Rakhine State, The Global New Light of Myanmar reports.
The spaces were established in May 2026 for children living in camps for internally displaced persons in Sittway Township. The initiative aims to provide psychosocial support and help children learn more about health and well-being.
The programme is being implemented by the Myanmar Red Cross Society with support from the Danish Red Cross and the Faroe Islands Red Cross.
According to the Myanmar Red Cross Society, the child-friendly spaces offer a safe environment where children can take part in activities designed to support their mental and emotional well-being.
Similar initiatives have been established elsewhere in Myanmar for children affected by conflict and natural disasters. In April, a child-friendly space was also opened in Sagaing Township to support children experiencing psychological distress following the recent earthquake.
