No Scandinavians among those affected by the fire at a hotel near Khao San Road that claimed three lives and left seven people injured.

A devastating fire at The Ember Hotel near Khao San Road has claimed three lives and left seven people injured, but fortunately, no Scandinavians were among those affected. The tragic incident unfolded on the evening of December 29, 2024.

The fire ignited on the fifth floor of the six-story hotel around 9:20 PM, with reports indicating the blaze originated in room 511. At the time of the incident, 75 guests occupied the hotel, including 39 individuals on the fifth floor. Firefighters brought the situation under control by approximately 10:30 PM, but investigators continue to probe the cause of the fire.

In room 511, officials discovered the body of a Brazilian woman, whose identity authorities have yet to release. She had stayed with her fiancé in a nearby room, and while they initially managed to flee, thick smoke separated them. Authorities suspect the woman mistakenly entered room 511, believing it was a fire exit, where she became trapped.

The other two victims included an American man and a Ukrainian man, both of whom succumbed to smoke inhalation shortly after the incident.

Injuries reported

Seven people also sustained injuries during the incident. Injured individuals include:

  • A Japanese man who receives treatment for smoke inhalation at Rama 9 Hospital.
  • A foreign woman who lost consciousness and currently receives care in the cardiac care unit (CCU) at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration General Hospital (Klang Hospital).
  • Two Thai men suffering from smoke inhalation; one declined hospitalization, while the other received care at Hua Chiew Hospital.
  • A 34-year-old German man with burns on his hand, who now receives treatment at Thonburi Bamrungmuang Hospital.

  • A Chinese man who lost consciousness and currently remains under observation at Hua Chiew Hospital.

In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports announced plans to compensate the families of those who lost their lives with 1 million baht each. Additionally, the Ministry will provide 500,000 baht each to the injured victims. The Ministry stated that it is still clarifying whether the injured Thai nationals will receive the same compensation.
