The Nordic embassies in Manila, in collaboration with the Nordic Liaison Office (NLO) Manila, are intensifying efforts to combat Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), a crime that has links between the Philippines and the five Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
Deputy Head of Mission Peter Dalberg from the Danish Embassy met with representatives from Save the Children Foundation (Red Barnet Denmark), as well as Danish and Norwegian police officials specializing in cybercrime, to discuss collaborative strategies in tackling OSAEC.
During the meeting, Save the Children presented their internet hotline, AnmeldDet, where citizens can anonymously report sexual abuse materials involving children and young people found online. The initiative aims to enhance public awareness and encourage reporting of such materials. More information about the platform can be found at redbarnet.dk/anmelddet.
Since the establishment of NLO Manila in March 2020, Nordic authorities have assisted in approximately 185 sexual offence cases between the Philippines and the Nordic region. The office operates with a four-pillar approach focusing on:
- Prevention and advocacy
- Prosecution and law enforcement
- Protection and reintegration of children
- Partnership and networking
The presence of NLO Manila reflects the Nordic commitment to actively supporting Philippine and Nordic authorities in tackling online child exploitation. The embassies reaffirm their dedication to working together with law enforcement and organizations to ensure the protection of children.
