One of China’s largest companies has chosen Malmö as the location for its European headquarters.

One of the largest companies in Sweden that produce glass screens for touch screens used in tablets, smartphones and laptops will be setting up shop in Malmö. Zhonghuan Hi-Tech will act as new European headquarters for the company supporting the European customer base. At first, the new Malmö office will focus on sales and marketing. The company is also seeking collaboration opportunities with local software companies for further development of a complete touch screen solution. Up to five people will be employed initially. In the longer term, the company may also establish a development centre for software and hardware.

Zhonghuan Hi-Tech selected Malmö ahead of Germany and Gothenburg.

“The main reason for choosing Malmö as our European headquarters is the level of expertise in the ICT industry, the geographical proximity to existing and prospective customers in Europe, but also aspects such as low corporate tax rates, reasonable operating costs and the closeness to Copenhagen Airport and routes from there to China. These were all strong arguments in favour of our choice,” states Peco Chu, who will be responsible for establishing the headquarters.

“We believe that Zhonghuan Hi-Tech has the potential to contribute to long-term growth dynamic in ICT in Skåne and we are pleased that they have chosen Malmö following detailed discussions with us,” says Daniel Kipowski, Business Area Manager forICT at Invest in Skåne. “We are therefore delighted to be welcoming a new player to the European market.”

Formed in 1959, the Tianjin Zhonghuan Electronics Information Group had a turnover of more than SEK 13.40 billion in 2011. The Group has 40,000 employees, offices in four countries and its main headquarters are in Tianjin. Malmö will be the first of the Group’s offices to be located in Europe.
