Sweden and Vietnam deepen cooperation on sustainable power grid

Swedish ambassador Johan Ndisi highlighted Sweden–Vietnam energy cooperation, stressing partnership and knowledge sharing for a reliable, sustainable power system.

Sweden and Vietnam are stepping up cooperation on a modern, sustainable power grid in Hanoi. Energy experts, policymakers and industry leaders met on 1 December under the Sweden–Vietnam Energy Alliance.

Delegates discussed long-distance transmission, power quality and integrating more renewable energy into Vietnam’s grid. Swedish companies Hitachi Energy, Unipower, Comsys, AFRY, Svenska Kraftnät and SEK shared technologies and financing tools.

Vietnamese agencies highlighted rising power demand, renewable integration challenges and the need for greater system flexibility. Both sides agreed solutions must fit Vietnam’s context and support national strategies and net-zero goals.

Sweden’s ambassador Johan Ndisi said partnership and knowledge sharing are key to building a reliable, sustainable power system. Hitachi Energy Vietnam managing director Chandan Singh said global expertise can support Vietnam’s ambitious energy transition.

Sweden already gets more than 90 percent of its electricity from non-fossil sources, including nuclear, bioenergy and hydropower. Delegates said adapting Swedish experience and flexible financing could help Vietnam build a future-ready, low-carbon power grid.
