Swedish Press Ombudsman on media self-regulation in Thailand

Ola Sigvardsson, Swedish Press Ombudsman, visited Bangkok yesterday, on Tuesday 4 July 2017, to attend a seminar on international experiences in media self-regulation.

The National Press Council of Thailand, NPC, organised the international seminar on their 20th anniversary, and invited Sweden to share their experiences implementing the world’s oldest Freedom of the Press Act, which was first enacted 1766.

The Swedish system of the Press Ombudsman is totally independent of the Government. Although self-regulation has been around for decades, Chavarong Limpattamapanee, Chairman of NPC, admitted that it still has room for improvement.
