Vietnam’s Gia Lai province backs Sweden’s Syre on renewable power deals

Vietnam’s Gia Lai province (pictured) says it will help Sweden’s Syre secure direct renewable power deals for its planned 1bn$ polyester recycling complex.

Vietnam’s central province of Gia Lai says it will help Sweden’s Syre secure direct renewable power purchases. Syre is developing a large polyester recycling complex designed to run on 100% clean electricity.

Syre told provincial officials it needs clearer plans and guarantees for green power supply. The company wants long-term certainty before scaling operations.

Gia Lai is a major wind and solar hub in Vietnam. Officials said 86 renewable projects are operating, with more than 4,300MW installed capacity.

The province said direct power purchase agreements have been difficult in the past. It cited Vietnam’s Decree 57, issued 3 March 2025, as a new legal framework for such contracts.

Syre’s project is estimated at 1bn$ and is expected to run continuously. Syre aims for 20–30% direct purchases by 2028, rising to 100% by 2050, and plans seven MW of rooftop solar.
