Norway joins EU statement criticising Singapore execution

The EU Delegation in Singapore issued a joint statement on 13 February after the execution of Malaysian citizen Lingkesvaran Rajendaren.

The statement was also backed by the diplomatic missions of EU member states in Singapore, as well as Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The group said Rajendaren was executed on 11 February as Singapore’s fourth execution in 2026. The statement said the execution was linked to a drug offence.

The signatories reiterated their opposition to the death penalty in all cases. They also said capital punishment should not be applied to drug offences, arguing these do not meet the international law threshold of “most serious crimes.”

They called on Singapore to adopt a moratorium on executions as a first step towards full abolition
