Thailand to hold long-awaited 3G auction mid-October

Total Access Communication Pcl, controlled by Norway’s Telenor is expected to bid for 15 of the 45 MHz that will auctioned on October 15 or October 16. The company known by customers as DTAC is the second largest Mobil operator in Thailand. The largest operator Advanced Info Service is likewise expected to bid for 15 MHz. leaving 10 MHz to the third company True Corp.
Earlier it has been expected that the two largest companies would try to get 20 MHz. each, leaving only 5 MHz. for True Corp. which not is sufficient for offering 3G services. The NBTC board therefore decided to limit the spectrum cape from 20 Mhz. to 15 Mhz. per operator.
The 45 MHz. will auctioned in nine slots with 5 MHz. each. The starting price will be 4.5 billion baht per slot, making the total revenue to the state at least 40.5 billion baht.
