Thai mobile phone operator AIS has picked the Swedish telecom giant Ericsson to supply a turnkey solution to expand AIS’ GSM/EDGE network in Bangkok. The expansion will increase the coverage of the current network and its capacity.
The contract is worth USD 110 million.
EDGE stands for Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution. It allows for higher bit rates than what the ordinary mobile data transmission system GPRS, General Packet Radio Services, can muster.
