National Day Of Sweden Celebrations In Malaysia

6 June 2008 does not only represent the National Day of Sweden, but also marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Malaysia. The day was celebrated with a cocktail reception at Hilton Kuala Lumpur, sponsored by Swedish companies – a function with some surprising features and 550 guests!


 The guest of honour, Mr Joseph Entulu Belaun, deputy Malaysian minister of rural and regional development, and the Swedish ambassador Helena Sångeland, proposed a toast to respective country before the guests were invited to enjoy the buffet prepared by Swedish chef Michael Elfwing. The delicious smorgasbord consisted of some traditional Swedish dishes such as Swedish meatballs with lingonberries, salmon with mustard sauce, Jansson’s temptation, and pickled herring. Later in the evening the band SWV entertained the guests with live music.


An exhibition by the sponsors; Swedish and Swedish-related companies with presence in Malaysia, attracted attention from the guests, who could compete against an ABB robot, have a test sitting in a brand new Volvo, or try the Electrolux home appliances. Another highlight of the reception was the bar sponsored by Absolut Vodka which served exciting and popular drinks throughout the night!
