The Embassy Advices Danish Citizens to Stay Away from the Demonstrations in Bangkok

Today August 26 2008 there’s a large number of demonstrations in Bangkok. People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has occupied several ministries and blocked the roads to central places in protest against the government.
The Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok advices Danish citizens to avoid demonstrations and large crowds. Besides this they should keep a close eye on the local media and follow the advice of the local authorities. If in a car you should also pay attention to the blockades in Bangkok and at driveways to and from Bangkok.
“The demonstrators who have occupied the government buildings carry weapons. Therefore I’ll classify this as riots even though the demonstrations have been peaceful so far,” says Linda Jacobsen, Commercial Counsellor at the Royal Danish Embassy in Bangkok.
It is still unknown how the situation will develop.
