Sweco accused of sloppy work in Vietnam dam project

One of Sweden’s largest consulting firms, Sweco, is accused of doing a bad job for the Yali dam project in Vietnam.
Experienced hydro consultants could have predicted the catastrophic damages caused by Vietnam’s Yali dam but Sweco failed to do so, according to a leaked Asian Development Bank report, claims the Canadian citizens group Probe International in a press release circulated to international media.
Probe investigates foreign aid and the dam building industry in the six-country Mekong
region.
The organisation accuses Sweco of overlooking the effects of spills from the dam and claims that some 25 locals were killed by dam spills in 1999 and 2000.
Sweco has not yet publicly commented the accusations.
