Long-time chairman of J&J Group (SEA) gives way to next generation

A. P. Jessen, a long-time top leader of Jebsen & Jessen Group (SEA), has stepped down as chairman after more than half a century of his active service in the family group of companies. The group’s executive vice-chairman J. Heinrich Jessen has been appointed the new chairman as of the beginning of this year.
     “It is time to make way for the new generation,” A. P. Jessen states in an open letter published on Jebsen & Jessen’s website .
     “I will now stop and transfer my duties to my successors from Jan 1, 2004,” he continues.
     J. Heinrich Jessen graduated with a B.Sc. in environmental studies summa cum laude, from The George Washington University, USA. He completed his masters’ degree in environmental management at the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Yale University.
     Mr. Heinrich set up the environmental, health & safety (EHS) policies and programme for the J&J Group in his capacity as director of EHS from 1995 to 1998. He has since been heading the operations in various companies within the J&J Group and was the group’s executive vice-chairman before taking up the leadership role.
     Meanwhile, the group’s managing directors, M. K. Beri and H. Askaer-Jensen, will continue to be overall responsible for the operational affairs.
     “The Executive Board and Heinrich have cooperated closely together as a team, formulating and implementing the Group’s strategy for the coming years and I have full confidence in their leadership and competence,” adds A. P. Jessen in his statement.
     With the corporate headquarters in Singapore, the Jebsen & Jessen family enterprise are involved in a wide range of activities, ranging from material handling equipment, packaging materials, chemical warehousing and distribution, and other import/export businesses.
