Danish Study Tour to Jakarta

Danish companies based in Southeast Asia are invited on a study tour on 28-29 March to Jakarta, Indonesia – the location of the Head Quarters of the ASEAN – to learn more about the impact of the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) and the ASEAN China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA). The study trip is organized by all the Danish Embassies in Southeast Asia: Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hanoi – and of course Jakarta.

The event will focus on the rules and regulations for cross-border trade i the ASEAN Region. Since the beginning of 2010 two agreements are in force. The ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) and the ASEAN China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA). The embassies in the region sense a growing interest related to AFTA and ACFTA.

Both agreements allows companies with production facilities in a member country to do cross-border business with other members on the same terms as a local company. However, a number of specific rules and regulations have to be met and this study tour can shed light on these issues.

On Monday 28 there will be a presentation by Maersk Line on the potential impact on the ASEAN intraregional trade.

On Tuesday 29 the workshop will be opened by a welcome speech by Deputy Secretary General for the ASEAN Economic Community and later there will be briefings by specialists of the ASEAN Secretariat including addressing pre-submitted questions by the Danish companies.
