Vestas Celebrates the First 25 Years in China

Friday 20th May, Vestas celebrated their 25th anniversary on the Chinese market with a big ceremony with the attendance of officials, business partners and customers.


Søren Jacobsen, Minister Counsellor of the Danish Embassy in Beijing participated in the ceremony and in his speech he emphasized the importance of Denmark’s strong wind power industry.


“After more than 30 years efforts, Denmark has developed a very strong wind power sector. And the crown jewel of this sector, of course is Vestas. I hope Vestas will be continuously involved in China’s ambitious development of renewable energy, design and produce more great turbines fitting Chinese market,” Søren Jacobsen said.


Before the ceremony the guests received a guided tour of Vestas’ three factories at the Tianjin manufacturing base.


First wind turbines in 1986


Vestas is the largest wind turbine producer in the world. The company’s headquarter is located in Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark. From 1970s, as the pioneer of wind industry, Vestas has been leading in wind turbine design and production.


The first Vestas turbines were shipped to China in 1986, and installed in Shandong and Hainan, and today the same turbines are still running well.


From 2004, Vestas started investing in China and building factories. Today, Vestas has seven factories in Tianjin, Hohhot and Xuzhou. Of them, the five factories in Tianjin form the biggest integrated manufacturing facility of Vestas globally.
