Indonesian shrimps pass environment requirements

The Swedish food trader Coop Sverige AB will continue selling giant shrimps from environmentally sustainable shrimp aquaculture in Indonesia.
Coop’s decision was announced 1 July following criticism from the Swedish Society for nature Conservation, SNF, which advises against any kind of shrimp cultivation.
All Coop import of giant shrimps comes from Indonesia.
Production of these shrimps has passed the strict German Naturland requirements as well as Japanese Alter Trade guidelines.
“Our ambition is to offer consumers the best and most environmentally friendly alternatives of a product,” says Mr Ake Natt och Dag, head of Coop’s environment department.
