Cantus will headline Singapore choral festival

Norwegian women’s choir Cantus, renowned for its vocals on Disney’s Frozen soundtrack, will headline the Singapore International Choral Festival in July.

Norwegian women’s choir Cantus, internationally recognised for its vocals on Disney’s Frozen soundtrack, will headline this year’s Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF), bringing one of Norway’s best-known vocal ensembles to Southeast Asia.

Cantus will perform on 19 July as the headline act of the festival’s 10th anniversary edition. The choir is best known to international audiences for performing the haunting opening piece Vuelie, which featured prominently in both Frozen films.

The appearance comes as Singapore’s choral scene continues to expand rapidly, with two major international choir festivals taking place simultaneously from 16 to 20 July.

Founded in 1996 and led by conductor Tove Ramlo-Ystad, Cantus has built a global reputation for its distinctive all-female sound and innovative repertoire, combining Nordic folk traditions with contemporary choral music. The choir has toured extensively around the world and gained worldwide recognition after its collaboration with Disney.

Cantus will perform as part of the Singapore International Choral Festival, one of Asia’s leading competitive choral events. The festival has grown significantly since its launch in 2014, expanding from 49 participating choirs in its first edition to 74 this year. It is also one of five qualifying competitions for the Asia Choral Grand Prix.

The Norwegian ensemble’s visit highlights Singapore’s growing status as a regional hub for choral music. Alongside the Singapore International Choral Festival, the inaugural Voices of the World International Choir Festival will also take place during the same week, reflecting a booming local interest in community and international choir performances.

For Scandinavian audiences in Asia, Cantus’ performance offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Norway’s most celebrated choirs live in the region.
