A bicycle snake of Danish officials were edging their way through heavy Jakarta traffic yesterday afternoon, leading the convoy, just behind a police motorcycle the Danish Ambassador Casper Klynge was pedaling away on a cargo bike wearing suit and tie.
The strong picture has circulated Indonesian news sites, which means Casper Klynge has succeeded his goal of promoting the benefits of biking and cycling as a green alternative to motorized road traffic.
The occasion for swapping the Ambassadors car for a heavy bike was the presenting of his letter of credence from the Danish Queen Margrethe II to the Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The letter of credence is an official document from one head of state to another, granting diplomatic accreditation.
