Danish Crown to open new plant in Shanghai

The big pork producer from Denmark, Danish Crown, is targeting China with new plans for opening a factory in Shanghai.

As the Chinese market is demanding higher quality meat and shows a growing interest in animal welfare, Danish Crown have decided to built a $42 million plant in Shanghai that will provide fresh meat to the Chinese market. The plant is expected to be completed in 2019, although Danish Crown is still looking for a location.

Frozen meat from Danish Crown have been highly requested in China, but a local meat factory will allow the company to also sell freshly packed meat and sausages, which will target a niche market of people willing to pay higher prices for quality food.
