Foraging Thais told to steer clear of Sweden’s poisonous mushrooms

There must be a significant number of Sweden-based Thais who go mushroom-hunting without enough knowledge to tell the difference between edible and poisonous varieties. The Swedish health authorities found it necessary to offer a Thai-language leaflet on how to identify and avoid poisonous and  poisonmushroom_croppedpotentially deadly fungi.

According to the Thai Embassy in Stockholm, cases of mushroom poisoning tend to happen during this time of the year when people go foraging for food in the countryside.

In a Facebook post, the embassy cited a recent incident, in which one Thai national died and 20 others hospitalized after eating the wrong kind of mushroom that they had gathered and cooked.
