Indonesia seeks stronger cybersecurity cooperation with Finland

Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said Indonesia wants to strengthen defence cooperation with Finland in cybersecurity, data protection and advanced defence technology.

Indonesia is looking to strengthen defence cooperation with Finland in cybersecurity, data protection and advanced defence technology.

The plans were discussed during a meeting between Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia Pekka Kaihilahti at the Defence Ministry headquarters in Jakarta on 14 July.

According to Indonesia’s Defence Ministry, the talks covered several areas of potential cooperation. These include data sovereignty, C4ISR technology, satellite communications and maritime domain awareness.

The two sides also discussed surveillance systems, cybersecurity and the development of Indonesia’s maritime defence capabilities.

Following the meeting, Sjafrie said Finland’s advanced technological expertise makes it a suitable partner for cybersecurity cooperation.

He added that Indonesia also hopes to expand cooperation in human resource development. The aim is to strengthen the country’s ability to use advanced defence technologies.

The minister said the discussions are expected to pave the way for closer defence cooperation between Indonesia and Finland.

Finland is recognised internationally for its expertise in cybersecurity and digital resilience. Indonesian authorities see this experience as valuable as the country continues to modernise its defence sector and strengthen the protection of critical data and infrastructure.
