Nordic energy company Neste is marking two major milestones, celebrating 15 years of renewable refining in Singapore and 60 years of operations at its Porvoo oil refinery in Finland.
The refineries highlight Neste’s transition from a local Finnish oil producer into a global leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel. The company says its renewable solutions help customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions across transport, aviation and industry.
Neste’s Singapore refinery, which began operations in 2010, was the company’s first major renewable fuel investment outside Finland. It has since expanded production to include SAF, bringing total renewable output in Singapore to 2.6 million tonnes per year.
“Singapore is a cornerstone of our global operations,” said Jukka Kanerva, Senior Vice President of Refining, Renewable Products at Neste. “Our growth in the region enables us to support customers in reducing emissions.”
In Finland, Neste’s Porvoo refinery celebrates six decades since start-up in 1965. Originally built to secure Finland’s fuel supply, Porvoo later became a key site for developing Neste’s renewable NEXBTL technology, which began production in 2007 and 2009.
“The Porvoo refinery is one of the most complex in Europe, with the ability to process crude oil as well as renewable and recycled raw materials,” said Jori Sahlsten, Executive Vice President of Oil Products at Neste.
Neste currently operates refining facilities across three continents and plans to expand annual renewable fuels capacity to 6.8 million tonnes by 2027.
