Norwegian and Vietnamese companies collaborate to protect fish from bacteria

Norwegian company Pharmaq and Vietnamese company Vinh Hoan Company have signed a strategic partnership agreement about protecting pangasius from a bacteria with a new vaccine.

For the first time in Vietnam, farmed fish pangasiu fish will be protected from the bacteria Edwardsiella Ictaluri and Aeromonas Hydrophila by ALPHA JECT Panga 2 vaccine.

Pharmaq and Vinh Hoan Company have on 24 August signed a long-term strategic partnership agreement about protecting farmed pangasius by using the vaccine. The vaccine is developed by the two companies during the last five years.

“This is a critical and strategic cooperation which is a breakthrough in Vietnam’s fishery sector especially pangasius industry”, said Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agricultural and Rural Development, Mr Vu Van Tam.

In addition to the full commercial scale vaccination of pangasius, the two partners will also work to establish full health and diagnostics systems and on other research and development activities to introduce new technologies to the industry, including vaccination machines.

Pharmaq is a global leader in vaccines and innovation for aquaculture. It has been active in Vietnam since 2008.
