A new electric passenger vessel using Norwegian technology is on its way in Asia.
Three companies have signed a deal to design and build the vessel, which will be the first in the region to use so-called AirHull technology, according to Maritmit Magasin.
The companies involved are Pascal Technologies, Lita Ocean and SeaTech Solutions International.
Cuts energy use
The new vessel will be 15 metres long and carry up to 29 passengers.
It will run fully on electric power and is designed for speeds of up to 22 knots. The AirHull system works by pushing air beneath the hull, reducing resistance in the water.
According to the companies, this can cut energy use by between 30 and 50 percent.
First of its kind in Asia
The contract was signed during Singapore Maritime Week 2026.
The vessel will be the first of its kind in Asia and is designed specifically for Singapore’s coastal waters.
