Sweden is using the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) to highlight the legacy of Pippi Longstocking and promote Swedish children’s literature to Taiwanese readers.
The Swedish booth previously marked Pippi Longstocking’s 80th anniversary at last year’s exhibition, as part of efforts to introduce the classic character and wider Swedish children’s publishing to local audiences.
Business Sweden’s Trade and Invest Council is presenting Swedish books for children and young adults at this year’s fair, which opened on 3 February at the Taipei World Trade Center and runs until 8 February.
Organisers are holding a Children’s Salon on 5 February from 1–2pm on Swedish stories reaching Taiwan. Writer and translator Wenfen Chen Malmqvist and children’s literature researcher Dr Huilin Chou are set to discuss translation and current trends in children’s publishing.
A Swedish “Fika” event is also planned on 6 February from 3–4pm at stand A1222, offering visitors a traditional Swedish coffee break.
TIBE is in its 34th year and features more than 500 stands from 29 countries. Thailand is the guest of honour for 2026, with events during the week and at least 18 Thai writers presented to Taiwanese audiences.
