On September 29 2025, the Swedish Government announced a new humanitarian support package worth SEK 775 million to address global crises, with Myanmar among the ten countries prioritized for aid. According to the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), SEK 23 million will be directed to humanitarian operations in Myanmar before the end of 2025.
The funding is part of a broader package jointly presented by Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Sida to strengthen international humanitarian efforts amid what officials describe as an unprecedented global funding shortfall. In total, Myanmar is set to receive SEK 228 million in Swedish humanitarian support throughout 2025.
Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa said the package underlines Sweden’s commitment to supporting people in conflict-affected regions where needs are greatest. Sida Director-General Jakob Granit added that the allocations are based on humanitarian needs rather than external factors such as media attention.
Alongside Myanmar, countries including Sudan, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been identified for targeted Swedish humanitarian assistance.
This comes after a press release on September 11 2025, wherein the Swedish government announced it would phase out aid to Myanmar to focus funds on Ukraine.
